Aspen Film will present the 28th annual Aspen Shortsfest at the Wheeler Opera House and Carbondale's Crystal Theatre from April 2-7, 2019. The celebration of short-cinema includes 69 films from 26 countries; 41% of which are female-directed.
A Marvel Studios director, Destin Cretton, will lead a conversation at the festival. Cretton remade his award-winning short Short Term into a feature-length film of the same name. The 96-minute version of Short Term will be the first feature shown at Shortsfest, followed by a discussion with Cretton about transitioning formats, and discovering new talent along the way (Short Term stars Oscar® winner Brie Larson, Oscar® winner Rami Malek and award winner LaKeith Stanfield.)
With a reputation as a premier North American festival, Aspen Shortsfest is Oscar®-qualifying in five categories of its international competition, which offers a selection of drama, comedy, animation, and documentary—all at 40 minutes or less. Intimate in scale, attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with guest filmmakers and industry experts at program Q&As, panels and receptions.
