Devin Pool aka @sixsevendevin won the Aspen Chamber Photo Challenge in the “Best Landscape” and “Peer Favorite” categories this summer. The Aspen-based Texan is represented by the Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt. In an interview on the gallery’s site he recently explained some of his process.
Almost like a hunter, he studies topographical maps, seasons, light, moon phases and the stars before taking off into the wilderness to capture his trophy—that perfect shot where all the elements align.
As the aspen leaves turn yellow, our social media feeds have been awash with breathtaking images of the Elk Mountains in peak autumn color. Yet Pool’s artistry and dedication make his photography stand out. His snow-dusted vista captioned at times “clash of the seasons” has been regrammed at least nine times, and received nearly 19,000 likes.
Pool’s work is in a group show on view now. American at Heart: Behind the Shutter closes October 1, 2017. Ann Korologos Gallery, 211 Midland Ave. Basalt, CO.
