Art, skiing, celebrity racers, and a community soiree celebrating Aspen Peak’s 10-year anniversary? Sign us up! Held Thursday, July 31, from 5-9 p.m., ArtAspen’s Opening Night Preview features Aspen Peak’s sneak peek of its 10th anniversary fête. ArtAspen VIP pass holders and Aspen Peak guests will be treated to a preview of the fair before it opens to the public on Friday, August 1. To commemorate its special anniversary, the magazine presents ArtSki @ ArtAspen, an innovative fundraiser unique to Aspen. Eight functional helmets, donated by OBSE Ski Helmets, have been hand-painted by local ski racers, artists, and celebrities, and will be auctioned at the fair. Proceeds benefit the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club (AVSC).

Prominent faculty members of the Aspen Valley Ski Club, former and current members of the USA National Ski Team, celebrities, and international artists have designed ski helmets, turning them into functional pieces of art, which can be proudly worn while skiing Aspen Mountain or displayed as sculptures. Participating artists include: Olympian Casey Puckett, 212 Gallery director Emilie Trice, AVSC alum and coach John “Johno” McBride, AVSC board president Marc Ganzi, U.S.A. ski team member Noah Hoffman, local artist Paul Woznicki, and Olympian Simi Hamilton. Founded in 1937, AVSC is the valley’s oldest and largest youth non-profit, with 3,500 family members. AVSC has taught generations of local children the very sports that revitalized the region. Stressing commitment, teamwork, and integrity, with a rigorous training program, the club serves as a virtual feeder of prospective athletes for the U.S.A. ski team.
