The Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club has a simple mission: to afford every child living in the Roaring Fork Valley the opportunity to experience our mountains. Its annual fundraising event takes the form of—what else?—a competitive ski race and après party at the base of Aspen Mountain. Teams for the 8th annual Audi Ajax Cup were led by 2018 Olympic-hopefuls (and AVSC alums) Alex Ferreira and Wiley Maple, professional race car driver Jimmie Johnson, and the most decorated American male ski racer of all time, Bode Miller. The competition was fierce with team Team Super-G! taking home the Gorsuch Cup led by Swedish former pro racer and current AVSC coach, Jonas Nyberg. Auction items included half days of skiing with Miller and with Lindsey Vonn, who will be in Aspen in February to train for the Winter Olympics in South Korea. The celebration at Schlomo’s continued through the afternoon fueled by Whispering Angel while ski racers and party-goers celebrated the biggest event of the holiday week. —Etta Meyer
