The Honeybee Juice Co. in the Ute City Building has begun a monthly juice cleanse series. At the end of each month, from Monday to Thursday, owner Kate Linehan offers four days of cold-pressed green juice, chia seed smoothies, and root vegetable soup ($200 for four-day supply) to leave your skin glowing and your body working at maximum efficiency. “I want to take the fear element out of cleansing,” says Linehan. “I want people to know it’s a helpful and important part of well-being.”
The juice bar offered its first four-day program this past January, with 28 local Aspen and Basalt residents, including this writer, taking part in the experience. Great for first-time cleansers, the days of the program consist of four bottles of fresh-pressed, ultra-nutritious, and very tasty juices (two in the morning and two in the afternoon), a thicker chia seed smoothie for lunch, and a mix of chopped vegetables for dinner. The fruits and vegetables in each of the juices are chosen for their alkalizing properties and ability to balance blood sugar, according to Linehan, and the midday chia smoothie helps to remove toxins from the digestive system
Note: this is not a weight loss cleanse. It’s intended to provide a clean slate for those who simply aren’t eating as well as they should. It provides a new perspective on the effect of food on body, mind, and spirit, and helps cleansers become conscious of how good food, even in juice form, can make you feel like a million bucks.
