What’s the aesthetic of the new Viceroy Snowmass penthouses?
The new four-bedroom residences are modern and transitional, complemented with clean lines. They are designed to feel inviting, comfortable and luxurious. I wanted guests to be able to come home and feel that they can throw their feet up and relax after a long day of skiing. I had fun with using different colors and patterns, and added unusual fabric pillows on the couches and beds. Before, the spaces much more dark in nature, so I hung a glass blown chandelier by John Pomp Studios in the open living area, seen as you enter the residence, to make the space seem lighter. I also used fabrics that were lighter toned.
How were you inspired by the natural alpine surroundings?
I feel lucky to have grown up in Aspen, and I’m always inspired by the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. For the Viceroy, and for all of my clients, I design with inspiration from this beautiful environment. I used natural textures such as hair-on-hide, fabrics, leathers, metals, and woods to blend with the mountain modern space. We also used mirrors to brighten and open up the space.
The redesigned penthouses stay true to Viceroy's chic style, yet have a new signature look. How did you accomplish this?
By blending natural and organic elements to create a chic, yet sophisticated space. The design of the furniture and quality of finishes were key in accomplishing the blend. I was also able to brighten the space with hand blown light fixtures and opened up the window areas to expose more natural light. Custom art was also an important touch to enhance the refined look.
Who will your design cater to?
Viceroy buyers are sophisticated, appreciating tasteful design and an incomparable living experience. Viceroy Snowmass, in particular, attracts adventurous guests that take full advantage of the outdoors, while also enjoying a comfortable, elegant retreat where they can relax. These particular qualities played a major role in choosing the right textures, tones and furniture to create the perfect blend of rustic and modern touches.
What design trend or product is your current obsession?
I love textiles. I always look forward to the new designs each season. The use of a gray palette has become hip; I think it’s a fresh look at mountain design. I’m also always looking for new and innovative products that stand out. Right now I’m obsessed with the line of fabrics that Kelly Wearstler designed for Lee Jofa. My current kitchen appliance obsession is steam ovens!
